“I watched John Paul Jones flash like a flaming meteor across the dark days of our struggle for independence.”
1773.
When Tom Folger’s father is lost during a whaling expedition, the young Nantucketer is forced to put aside thoughts of his printer’s apprenticeship to support his mother.
In keeping with the family’s sea-faring tradition, he joins a whaler’s crew and sets out on his first cruise, but an encounter with a bull sperm whale changes everything.
Not only does Tom find himself promoted third mate, a position not without its difficulties, but it leads to a chance encounter with the enigmatic Captain Paul.
An ex-slaver and merchantman, the fugitive Scottish buccaneer’s path becomes entwined with that of Tom. With conflict brewing the two join the fledgling Continental Navy.
Through trials and tribulations, politicking and treachery, Tom sails with Captain Paul from Nassau to France and on into the home waters of the feared Royal Navy.
As the Revolutionary War rages on, a legend will be born.
With echoes of Moby Dick and Hornblower, Captain Paul is an enthralling fictional biography of John Paul Jones that vividly brings to life the brotherhood of the sea.
Praise for Captain Paul

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Could hardly put it down towards the end (a person does have to sleep!). To consider what John Paul Jones accomplished when he had to fight politicians and other members of the Navy at every turn is truly inspiring.Product details

Very entertaining and brings to life some remarkable times by some remarkable people.
Very interesting story.
Enjoyed & learned a bit of history.
Good read. Learn about John Paul Jones naval career through the eyes of a young sailor.
The exact scenario of political influence and correctness of today has it's origins in the 2nd Continental Congress; reading "Capt Paul" reminds you that rewards go to those closer to the power than to those closer to the action.
Great historical read with depth of research combined with the bittersweet story of John Paul Jones.
If you love American history you will love this book. Within 20 pages it had me hooked. The style of writing was early american so it mentally put you in that period. It was amazing how much back stabbing there was among our founding fathers. Captain Paul was blocked from getting good ships in favor of relatives of powerful men thru out the war. Great reading and you won't want to put it down.
